Are you new to Physiotherapy?

If you are new to Physiotherapy, here are a few things to expect in your session and some insider tips on what you need to do to prepare for it.

Always try and be early for your appointment.  Your first session will almost always need you to fill out an admissions sheet with your details.  Make sure you bring your identification cards and health benefits card.  The Physiotherapist will spend a few minutes listening to you describe your problems and will ask questions which will help the diagnosis procedure.  The Physiotherapist will also have to physically assess the problem by feeling the area, and moving the area, and watching how you move.  Treatment will be provided and sometimes some advice for how you can help your own problem at home.  Make sure that you have panadol or a hot water bottle/wheatbag ready at home.  As more than likely, on the first session of Physiotherapy, you will have some pain from the hands on treatment.  Similar to when you have a massage, or do extra stretches.  Changes to the body can be felt, and more often than not, be felt as pain.
